Airdrie United Football Club is a second division team this year and are hoping to just go through this season with re building happening in the years ahead

The club itself is a Scottish professional football team based in the town of Airdrie, which is situated in North Lanarkshire. This club were also just created in 2002 after the previous club that played in the ground call Airdrieonians went into liquidation. Gretna took the place of Airdrieonians in the Scottish league so it took a bit of magic by Jim Ballantyne (a life long Airdrieonians fan) who completed a buy-out of the ailing Clydebank Football Club. This was seen by many as a shocking way to get this club back into the football league as it cost Clydebank a place in the Scottish Football. But it did bring back this football club and the SFL past the move as legal. This was when the name changed happened and this new club called Airdrie United were formed.

The club today still play at the same ground and in theory nothing has change except the slight name change, but many thought of Airdrieonians as Airdrie so nothing has changed there. The current manager of Airdrie United is former player of Airdrieonians.

Airdrie United play their home fixtures at a brand new stadium called Excelsior Stadium, Airdrie, but many people still called the stadium New Broomfield as there 'old' stadium while called Airdrieonians was called Broomfield.
