Annan Athletic Football Club were founded in 1942 when they entered into the Dumfries and District Youth League and then in 1945 they joined the Dumfries and District Junior League. Annan play all their games at Galabank which is located on the towns North Street. With Annan situated near of the border of Scotland and England the team joined Carlisle and District League and the Cumberland Football Association within the English Football league in 1952/53. In this league they achieved nearly all the honours that they could and this proved a very excellent move. All this came about because of the problems in the Dumfries and District league when the league had to close due to lack of officials to control the league.
For the next 20 years or so the club remained playing in English football, but finally they joined the South of Scotland football league. By doing this they had to upgrade their ground so they could gain entrance into the Scottish Cup qualifying rounds.
Over the years they did very well in this league winning everything that was going. They tried to gain entry into the Scottish Football league a few times over the years. First time was in 2000 but they lost out to two highland clubs Peterhead and Elgin City. The next time they were accepted into the league as I stated above in 2008 and the rest is history. There first season in the Scottish Third division would be seen as an success because the match every team they played against and held their own. How they get on this season is a guess as teams will now know how to play against them, but I would say teams are still in for a surprise when they face Annan Althletic Football Club and I do wish them all the best in the years ahead.
