Arbroath play all their game at Gayfield Park and official is the closest ground to the sea in Britain. I have been at this ground when there is a strong wind from the North Sea and it sometime hard for the team against the wind the kick the ball more than 30 meters. Makes for a very interesting game and one where the team with the most skill and close passing skills come out on top. The top attendance at Gayfield Park was against Rangers Football Club in the Scottish Cup back in February 1952 when an amazing 13,510 turned up to watch this game. The game maximum attendance now is just over the 6,000 mark with just over 80% of this standing.
Arbroath have been around since 1878 and have been mostly in the lower leagues in Scotland. One of their worst seasons was back in 1996/97 when they were bottom of the pile in Scottish Football senior leagues. After a summer of hard work they fought back to actual win promotion to the second division the following season. This alone was a great achievement for this club. They stayed in this division for the next three seasons until they gain more success with promotion to the second tier of Scottish Football – Scottish Football League Division 1.
The club major honour are as follows:
League Champions Runners Up - Division II 1934 - 35, 1958 - 59, 1967 - 68, 1971 - 72, 2000 - 01
